Ligno-Scanner D: 3/4″, Pinless, for Wood
The Ligno-Scanner D is a pinless moisture meter for wood with a ¾” measuring depth.
All Ligno-Scanners, a pinless moisture meter, give true wood moisture readings in percent using built-in corrections for different species. Corrections can also be programmed by entering the specific gravity between 0.3 and 1.0. The resolution is 0.1% for the entire measuring range. The HOLD function is available in all pinless meters from Lignomat. The Lignometer K incorporates the most advanced measuring technology for pin meters from Lignomat. With the widest measuring range, this meter has been used for wood and many non-wood applications.
Why choose a Ligno-Scanner D from Lignomat:
Approved by woodworkers for quality and price. → Fine Woodworking review. Unique measuring technology assures accuracy, repeatability, and reliability backed by a 2-year warranty.
When selecting the right Ligno-Scanner for your application consider measuring depth and the materials you want to measure. The measuring depth is crucial for any pinless meter.
Most pinless meters, just like the Ligno-Scanner D are calibrated for wood 3/4″ thick. The meters will not measure any deeper and if thinner boards are measured, measurements could be wrong. If you work with a variety of thicknesses, you can either stack thinner materials to a 3/4″ stack or buy one of Lignomat’s dual-depth Ligno-Scanners.
The measuring depth of a pinless meter is crucial. Moisture readings are too low when the Scanner is placed on a workpiece that is thinner than the measuring depth. Scanners never measure any deeper than the measuring depth.
The entire measuring pad has to be on a flat and smooth surface for accurate readings
Species Corrections for Ligno-Scanners and Ligno-VersaTec correlate directly to the Specific Gravity. Example: For a specific gravity of 0.57 (0.57g/cm 3 )set species # 57. Specific Gravity for most wood species can be found on the Internet. We also include a Species Chart with recommended settings. The Ligno-Scanners SDM and the Ligno-VersaTec have calibrations built-in for drywall and concrete and a reference scale for non-wood building materials. Measuring range: 5-60% dependent upon Species. For hardwoods the Scanners read lower than 5%, for softwoods, the Scanners start reading above 5%. Resolution of read-out: 0.1% Less accurate above Fiber Saturation Point at 30%.
Wood Moisture Meter:
The Ligno-Scanner D is a preferable tool for cabinetmakers and hardwood floor installers and inspectors. You can scan large numbers of boards, and detect higher moisture levels and water pockets. This meter is an indispensable tool when assessing water damage and determining moisture content on finished materials. Meter can also be used when measuring engineered flooring.
This meter has a unique feature that includes 71 species settings or specific gravity settings 0.3- 1.0. Lignomat’s pinless meter also gives moisture readings in percent moisture content. There is also an additional reference scale when measuring non-wood building materials that can be used for comparative readings.
In history mode, the instrument automatically stores up to 5000 waveforms in a separate history buffer. At any point in time, acquisition can be stopped and any waveform in the history buffer can be analyzed using the full oscilloscope functionality. One-time anomalies that would have been missed by a conventional handheld oscilloscope can now be analyzed in detail.

Other Lignomat Products
Pin meters:
The pocket-size mini-Ligno Series has been popular since its introduction more than 30 years ago. Several updates over the years have kept the technology up to date for these accurate and reliable meters.
Pinless meters:
One step up from the Ligno-Scanners D or S would be the Ligno-Scanner SD which offers selectable measuring depths of 1/4” and 3/4” deep. The Ligno-DuoTec BW is a scanning meter that can also be used as a Thermo-Hygrometer. You can measure the relative humidity in the air or use the meter to measure the moisture in concrete before laying a floor. Complies to ASTM F2170-09 to obtain in-depth Rh measurements.
