The Fluke 789 Process Meter is a noticeable improvement over the previous generation 787. Featuring a more intuitive and user-friendly design, the 789 also has a display that is approximate twice the size of the 787. The redesigned display is also much brighter with two levels of background lighting options. This makes it adaptable to both bright and dark working environments. The externally accessible AA alkaline batteries last a typical 140 hours in measurement mode and are easy to change in the field. The digital multimeter functionality of the 789 is a powerful tool suitable for a variety of applications. It is rated at 1000 V, 440 mA including features such as True-RMS, diode testing, and a continuity beeper. The integrated multimeter is designed to meet 1000-volt IEC 1010 CAT III standards.

The Fluke 789 has a 24-Volt loop supply reducing the need for taking a separate power supply when doing offline transmitter testing. As with the 787, the 789 combines a loop calibrator and a digital multimeter into a single instrument. New for the 789 is the addition of an integrated 250 ohm HART® resistor. By adding the integrated resistor, Fluke has eliminated the need to also carry a stand-alone resistor around a job site.
