Designed specifically for the solar industry, the Metcal PS-900-Solar can solder wires, tabs and stringers without causing damage to expensive solar materials. The PS-900-Solar uses SmartHeat technology and a special hand-piece to deliver the precise heat needed for reliable connections. SmartHeat’s internal microprocessor enables the unit to operate at lower temperatures to help eliminate micro-cracking or stressing expensive material.

The PS-900 System is comprised of an induction coil assembly and a heater tip. Each heater tip is equipped with a self-regulating heater which ‘senses’ its own temperature and tightly maintains its pre-set idle temperature for the life of the heater-tip; all controlled by Metcal’s proprietary SmartHeat technology. The tip temperature is determined by the inherent metallurgical properties of the heater; no external adjustment or equipment is required. The power delivered to the tip automatically varies in direct response to the thermal load. This eliminates spikes and transients associated with electrically switched elements found in conventional soldering irons.

The PS-900-Solar with SmartHeat is easy to use, eliminates calibration time, and requires very little maintenance. In addition, its soldering tips are designed for long life which reduces overall operating costs.
