- Measurement: average RF power
Average Reading RF Power Meter
The Bird APM-16 RF Wattmeter is designed to keep pace with the ever-growing complexity of digitally-based communication systems. Bird’s Model 43 and most other wattmeters available today were designed to measure the power of constant amplitude, sinusoidal waveforms.
With today’s increasingly common digital RF technologies where accurate average power measurement of such signals with a conventional wattmeter may yield unacceptable errors measurements, the APM-16 can accurately measure analog and complex digital RF signals to +/-5% of Reading and can be used for pre or post combiner power measurements.
Element selection
The Bird APM-16-wattmeter uses APM series plug-in elements.
These are calibrated in accordance with meticulous Bird calibration procedures supported by a long history of mean deviation values to assure adherence to advertised specifications of current instruments, as well as field interchangeability with equipment purchased, used, and trusted in all the years since its introduction.
Please note, elements are sold separately.

Quick Change (QC) connectors
At each end of the line section are Bird Quick-Change RF connectors that may be interchanged with any other Bird “QC” connector. The wattmeter housing does not interfere with connector changes. The Bird 4431 is normally supplied with Quick-Change Female N-type connectors.
The chart below contains descriptions and part numbers for many types of optional QC connectors.
