The Botron B9203 two operator and mat continuous monitor is designed to monitor the resistance of both the work surface and the operator. It comes with a built-in audible alarm and LED, triggering either when either the operator or work surface falls out of spec, becomes disconnected, or ground is lost. It is a fixed resistor system and is go/no go. A full-time monitoring system is necessary to reduce latency on the assembly line.

The B9203 offers universal support for standard 4mm banana-type grounding coil cords. It can monitor 2 operators via Single Wire ESD Wrist Strap connections, 1 each per remote box. It can also monitor one ESD mat ground plane. A multi-color LED and piezo buzzer provide the operator with both visual and audible feedback in the event of a ground system fault.

Overview

Single conductor (more commonly called single wire) ESD wrist strap monitors detect capacitance. These simplified monitors sense the input connection but do not discern precision resistance. They also offer additional value by monitoring the worksurface (ESD Mat) and the ground connection. The built-in LED offers local visual alerts, and a small piezo buzzer offers a nice clear audible alert to the operator at the bench.

This is an entry point to monitoring personnel at the bench. If you are only verifying your Single Wire ESD Wrist Straps via an ESD tester it is possible your wrist strap may fail or the operator may exceed the allowable resistance path to ground while at the bench, exposing sensitive components to electrostatic discharge.
