The Megger MIT430/2 (#1006-746) insulation and continuity tester is designed not just for Electrical and Industrial testing. This new model supports an exceptionally wide range of applications including electrical installations, cable testing, motor testing, automotive, ESD, panel building, avionics, maintenance, and more.
The MIT4302’s insulation testing function has been enhanced with feedback-controlled test voltages which limit over-voltage to 2%, much better than the industry standard 10-20%. A variable range has been added to allow testing with any intermediate voltage from 50 V to 1000 V in 10 V steps, even with voltages that do not appear in the standard ranges. Continuity testing is now significantly faster with a single autoranging 0.01 Ω to 1.0 MΩ function which replaces the “ohms” and “kOhms” ranges. In addition, the MIT430/2 retains 200 mA and 20 mA continuity test options. The unit also serves as a variable insulation voltage tester. This function provides a solution to awkward insulation testing applications by allowing for testing from 10 V to 1000 V in 1 V increments.
This new model also features a redesigned case, back-stand, and 6 cell battery compartment with separate fuse access. The instrument is over-moulded for increased protection and features an IP54 weatherproof rating.
General Features
The MIT430/2 maintains accuracy of output test voltages to within 2%. Voltages are also stabilized using feedback control. During testing, the measurement voltage is displayed on the unit’s main screen. Polarization Index (PI) and Dielectric Absorbtion Ratio (DAR) functions come standard on the MIT430/2. These functions allow for 10 minute / 1 minute ratio for PI and 60 second / 30 second ratio for DAR. With the MIT430/2, users can also automatically test to a time limit via timed testing.
A high test range is included which allows for insulation testing up to 200 GΩ at 1000 V. High quality silicon test leads are also included with the MIT430/2. These leads are extremely comfortable to use handheld for long periods. They can also help prevent measurement errors on GΩ ranges above 5 GΩ. The unit’s test inhibit function prevents testing completely if voltages exceed a user-defined limit while testing insulation. The default for this function is set at 50 V.
Continuity (Resistance) Testing
The MIT430/2 supports 200 mA and 20 mA continuity test currents for insulation testing. Keep in mind, 20 mA will provide much better battery life. Lead resistance compensation (NULL) is included and operates up to 10 Ω of resistance. A buzzer with adjustable limit is also included for resistance testing. The buzzer will buzz when insulation resistance exceeds a user-defined limit, adjustable from 1 Ω to 200 Ω in 12 steps.
Display
The display on the MIT430/2 gives users a combination of analogue arc and dual digital readouts. The analogue arc spans the full width of the main display. It shows essential charge and discharge characteristics which wouldn’t be visible on a normal digital screen. The analogue arc’s single pointer needle responds similar to an analogue moving coil meter.
The dual digital display on the MIT430/2 features a large main readout, providing good visibility of all main measurement results. The second display shows additional data including insulation test voltage, insulation leakage current, supply frequency when measuring volts, and test mode whether PI, DAR or timer mode.
Rotary Knob Functions
Test functions are selected by turning the rotary knob from the OFF position to the desired function. The display will show the initial screen for that function.
Press a black keypad button to change the test mode from the standard measurement, or to select the Backlight and Buzzer ON/OFF.
The rotary knob should always be returned to the OFF position after use. Do not rely on the AUTO OFF function as this unnecessarily wastes battery life.
