Scienscope prisms are housed with the body of the microscope and do not move with eyepieces. This design protects the prisms and eliminates the chance of misalignment caused by the prisms.
Scienscope microscopes use an external nylon-on-nylon gear system. This increases the smoothness of the zoom and protects the gears from other moving parts. This system is less likely to deteriorate over time due to the compatibility of the materials. Notice how the gears are housed away from all other internal mechanisms.
