Traditional methods of locating breakers and wiring are inefficient and expensive, often requiring two operators and a radio. In addition, the breakers have to be flipped on and off. Due to computers and voltage sensitive equipment this task is often performed during off hours or specific days with scheduled computer downtime. Using the POWER TRACE will greatly reduce man hours involved in locating breakers, fuses, and wires!

How it Works

The PTL610 POWER TRACE TRANSMITTER draws current from a 9-600 volt line in a very unique manner. The current drawn is a microprocessor controlled precision combination of separate frequencies that create a composite signal. This composite signal gives a very specialized “signature” to the signal. To be received, the signal must have this exact combination of frequencies. This feature greatly reduces the possibility of interference from electrical noise. This “signature” is present everywhere along the current path, including through breaker, fuses, and transformers. An LED on the TRANSMITTER shows that the circuit has power and the unit is functioning properly.

The POWER TRACE RECEIVER is tuned to pick up only the magnetic “signature” caused by the TRANSMITTER. The signal is indicated by both fixed signal strength and variable signal strength LEDs.

How it’s Used

Simply plug in the transmitter. As you move the receiver closer to the wire or breaker, the signal increases. When you have maximum signal, you have located the line.
