Due to the lack of continuity, a static charge originating on the hood may not be able to dissipate through the coverall and boot to be eliminated via the grounded floor. The TX4000 Systems complies with ANSI ESDS20.20 & IEST-RP-CC052.1 standards and qualifies as a Category 3 cleanroom ESD garment capable of grounding mobile operators with both soft and hard sole boots. The most effective way to determine the effectiveness of a grounding system for personnel is to measure the voltage on a person while moving. If ungrounded, just moving throughout the cleanroom can generate a charge on the body high enough to damage electronics components nearby. The TX4000 is designed to ground a person when standing on an ESD floor without having to tether themselves with a wrist strap. It is one less precaution to be concerned with while working in sensitive applications.

IEST-RP-CC052.1 – Understanding, Identifying and Controlling Electrostatic Charge in Cleanrooms and Other Controlled Environments: This Recommended Practice (RP) provides a basis for understanding how electrostatic charge occurs. This RP discusses problems caused by electrostatic charge in cleanrooms, as related to particle management, physical damage from discharge and process interruptions from transient electromagnetic interference (EMI). This RP also provides suggestions for identifying and resolving such risks by means such as dissipation of charge from conductors and process-essential insulators that have an opportunity to interact with ESD sensitive (ESDS) items. Such conductors include personnel, conductive components in production equipment and associated fixtures.

ANSI/ESD STM97.2 – Walking Test: The most effective way to determine the effectiveness of a grounding system for personnel is to measure the voltage on a person while moving. ANSI/ESD STM97.2 describes the equipment needed and the procedure for measuring voltage on a person. The voltage measured can be compared to the upper limit that can be tolerated in the process.

ANSI/ESD STM 2.1 – Resistance to Ground: The electrical resistance from any point on the person/garment to a verified electrical ground source (Typically third wire AC ground). A lower resistance allows voltage to flow from the person and garment to ground, whereas a higher resistance traps the voltage on the person possibly leading to particle attraction or a voltage discharge to sensitive devices. ANSI/ESD STM 2.1 provides a method to verify the resistance to ground of a groundable garment system.
